The publicist’s job is growing more complex: A status analysis of the PR Department

The Press and Publicity Department reports to the program director and currently includes fifteen positions. Seven publicists, specializing in different topic areas, handle the publicity work and program promotion. Their main target group is the German media, but also includes multipliers such as producers and actors, institutions and film festivals.

In the first step, FLYING EYE analyzed the documents provided by ARTE, e.g. job descriptions, workflows and org charts. This was followed by semi-structured interviews and workshops to describe the activities of the individual publicists and their interactions. We also mapped the implemented tools and the main processes. On the basis of this analysis, we provided recommendations for the next steps and possible changes.

The result of this work provides a basis for long-term strategic considerations about further developing the job descriptions we studied. In the short term, it opens up prospects for improvement, for more efficient organization, and for more practical use of the existing and/or necessary tools.
