Digitally created, automatically controlled: Consulting on automated quality control components in the digital studio’s production chain

Up to this point, the Hollywood studio had performed most of its quality control (QC) tasks for the digital studio manually. Now the company wanted to use automated QC solutions and products, so it hired FLYING EYE to evaluate the corresponding components.

Together with the stakeholders, we defined functional and non-functional requirements as well as application cases. We used the provided documents as well as workshops to carry out an analysis, which allowed us to objectively evaluate the QC tools. We documented all of the requirements, including prioritization, in an evaluation form. In the process, we followed the structure proposed in the “EBU Periodic Table for QC.” We derived QC parameters from the requirements and application cases, and assigned them to the existing parameters within the periodic table. The next step was choosing and testing the QC tools to be evaluated.

The final analysis answered the urgent question of which tools met which requirements, and how the testbed could be migrated into the existing infrastructure. Using our selection of suitable QC tools and QC products, the customer was able to build the appropriate infrastructure. Now the company has an automated QC platform for the mastering and distribution content created in its digital studio.
