Norddeutscher Rundfunk - On the Way to a Modern Workflow Management
FLYING EYE moderates and supports the process optimisation of the On-Air schedule.
In cooperation with all staff members, NDR has chosen a different path of process orientation at the traditionally weak interface between software and hardware in order to introduce a modern workflow management in the broadcast division.
By order of NDR, FLYING EYE has initially analysed the information flow and flow of material in the existing workflows. The analysis of the already profoundly automated processes resulted in a list of potential improvements.
These results were the basis for a workshop, were all staff members involved in the process developed a new organisation chart. The role of FLYING EYE was to moderate the workshop. Attention should be paid to the fact that the management trusted in the expertise and effectiveness of their staff and did not interfere with any details of the optimisation process. The guidelines relied on the principle of self-dependent work.
As a result, a significant reduction of responsibility allocations and control steps could be achieved. The willingness of staff members to "live" such a newly developed organisation is very high. This significantly eases the introduction of the new workflow management.
Even though a bit sceptical on the chosen approach in the beginning, the client was very satisfied with the result. "It is an interesting concept, to rely on the knowledge of our staff members and to simultaneously create acceptance for new workflows, therefore, we will definitely use it again in the future." says Josef Lipp, Head of Broadcast Operations, in commenting the achieved results. As a matter of fact, the NDR staff council agreed completely with the new approach.
